Terrific video on high-speed rail in the Northeast

High-speed rail in the Northeast Corridor is critical to providing the capacity needed to support projected growth in the region. The corridor’s $3 trillion economy, representing 20 percent of the nation’s total, is the direct result of our nation’s historic investments in world-class infrastructure.  However, as our vital transportation arteries clog up, current budgets do not project similar investments to meet future demand.  The Northeast Corridor must build high-speed rail in order to maintain the freedom and mobility that its economic health and competitiveness is founded on.

The Regional Plan Association has produced a highly educational short video that makes the case in four minutes and makes it about as well as I have seen.  It features RPA’s Robert Yaro, Al Engel of Amtrak, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT), and Paul Levy of Philadelphia’s Center City District, along with lots of helpful graphics.

Anyone who has traveled in other developed countries is struck by how far ahead of us many of them are.  Why should that be?  Enjoy and learn:
