For about two years now, I have had a productive relationship with the Sustainable Cities Collective, a source of web-based information related to “urban sustainability, green building, and alternative transportation.”  The site’s editors have free license to reproduce my blog posts when they see fit, as long as there is a link back to the original, and I am pleased when they do.  (I’m terrible at predicting which ones they will like, but that’s part of the fun.)

They do the same for an amazingly gifted and provocative group of thinkers and writers, many of whom I cite here often, including Aaron Renn, Daniel Nairn, Shari Shapiro, Tyler Caine, the folks at the American Society of Landscape Architects and Next American City, and many more:

“We look to aggregate content and provide resources for all who work in or are interested in urban planning, sustainable development and urban economics. Looking at issues such as transportation, building practices, community planning & development, education, water, health and infrastructure, we hope to create a community where people can get involved and learn about the advances in how cities are becoming smarter and greener in the 21st century.”

I was honored to be asked recently to serve on the Collective’s advisory board, along with Lynne Barker, Chris Cheatham, and Geoff Wilkinson, and I am looking forward to helping them evolve.

So I suppose I’m a little biased, but I recommend them to anyone interested in a go-to site for a range of writers on sustainability.  What I especially like is that the editors’ tastes lean toward thought pieces more than just the usual news updates and advocacy one finds in the blogosphere (though they publish some of each).  If you haven’t found the Collective already, it could be worth your time to check out the site.

The Sustainable Cities Collective is edited and published by Social Media Today, a company that assists organizations and corporations in creating business-to-business or professional-to-professional communities using social media.  In addition to the Sustainable Cities Collective, the company houses The Sustainable Business ForumThe Energy Collective, GoverningPeople.com, MyVenturePad, and several other online communities.
